Folk and Naturalistic Village of Guangzhou University Town is a cultural park, a business center and a tourist resort for art galleries, bars , shopping, entertainment and hotel services.

The village, which is on the southeast of Guangzhou University Town and newly built on a typical ancient southern-Chinese village called Lian Xi Cun, covers an area of 165,000 square meters. With ancient Chinese banyan and temple of Baozheng ( a famous Chinese administrator of Song Dynasty ) nearby, Lian Xi Cun Village consists of 54 independent structures, including 11 original ancient Chinese structures, 38 renovated structures with classical architectural characteristics and 5 ancestral temples moved from outside the village. Through integration of functions and inner structure, the ancestral temples are transformed into museums of folk culture and exhibits of local architecture. A crystal stream crosses the village, with a stage built at the center of the pond providing local cultural performances.

Northwest is the key zone of the Folk and Naturalistic Village with native inhabitants and a street area. High walled houses with southern Chinese architectural styles and native colorful paintings can be seen here. The exterior of each house is distinguished from the others. Paintings range from Chinese proverbs, folk stories and fairy tales to poetic and picturesque Chinese scenic poems and artistic conceptions. You may even find the well-known story of the ancient Chinese heroine MuLan here.

Scholars and experts give particular praise to the sound preservation of historical relics and cultural heritage in the village. All the renovated structures are in line with the spirit of faithful pursuit of historical reproduction. The Folk and Naturalistic Village of Guangzhou University Town aims to demonstrate the splendid cultural tradition of the largest ancient village on the Xiao Gu Wei island of Guangzhou, it also features the architectural achievements of Guangzhou University Town: combining both the naturalistic and historical characteristics of the construction, invigorating the history with modern vitality .

The precedent premier Zhu Rongji payed a visit to the Folk and Naturalistic Village of Guangzhou University Town On January 25th, 2007 and spoke highly of the preservation of cultural relics in the village, hoping the village would serve as a stage showing the great charm of Southern Chinese culture.
