As the Guangzhou 2010 Asian Games approaches, Chinese media are paying more attention to developing strategies to cover the event. At the third Guangzhou Asian Games Media Forum last week, experts from different parts of the country agreed that coverage of the Games should be focused on promoting Guangzhou and making it a beneficiary of post-Games investment, according to Yangcheng Evening News.

Some experts believed that the Asian Games would not be as influential as the Beijing Olympics, which was participated by countries and regions across the world, and that China would not face much challenge for the top spot in the medal tally of the Guangzhou Asian Games. Therefore, the media should not just concentrate on the competition itself. Instead, they should put more emphasis on the friendly and humble attitude, confidence and magnanimity among local citizens, spectators, athletes, judges and volunteers, which will greatly enhance the host city's image and appeal and promote cultural exchanges. The experts hoped that investment in Guangzhou would be significantly boosted after the Games.
Mr Jin Xinyi, a famous Chinese netizen, said the Guangzhou Asian Games should showcase the Lingnan culture of South China.
The theme of last week's media forum was "Asian Games Communications & Cross-media Integration".
