Vehicle restrictions is a must during the Asian Games

Updated:2009-11-09 11:16:03 Source: english.gz.gov.cn

On November 4, as the Guangzhou Asian Games Organising Committee noted, during the Asian Games, Guangzhou will surely carry out programs to restrict vehicle use, but not necessarily use the odd-even license plate number restriction — limiting motorists to driving on alternate days.

According to Tang Ruping, Director of Games Service Department of the Guangzhou Asian Games Organising Committee, exclusive lanes for Asian Games vehicles are planned to be set up, connecting hotels in headquarters area, the Asian Games Town, Baiyun Airport and other main venues for the Games.

As Tang remarked, it is for sure that Guangzhou's downtown areas will also be under vehicle restriction policies, but they will not simply adopt the measure of odd-even license plate number restrictions. Limiting driving on different roads and at different hours will also be part of the traffic control systems used. Now the authorities are making detailed plans, which will be published once approved.
