I. Profile of Media Operation of Guangzhou Asian Games
The media operation of the Guangzhou Asian Games is mainly in the charge of GAGOC's Broadcasting and Media Services Department (BMS) , which offers diverse services targeting at broadcasting, MPC, VMCs, AGNS, photo services and media support services.
BMS's task lies in satisfying the coverage demands of all accredited foreign media and working out the policies and procedures for media services in the stage of pre-Games to enable the accredited media to cover the Games smoothly during competition.
II. Content of Media Operation of Guangzhou Asian Games
The media operation of the Guangzhou Asian Games involves news operation and broadcasting operation, and the media services during the Games scatter over such venues as IBC, MPC and VMCs.
MPC, VMCs, AGNS, photo services and media support services constitute the main business fields for the news operation that mainly aims at providing perfect facilities and services for about 6,000 accredited journalists and photographers as well as the non-rights-holding broadcasting media , and providing technical and service guarantee for their coverage of the Games.
And the broadcasting operation is another key field of the media operation of the Games. Generally, the Organizing Committee establishes a host broadcasting organization to send public signals for the Right Holders(RH). The Host Broadcaster was unveiled through public bidding in September 2008, which is a team made up of Chinese personnel from Guangzhou TV Station, Guangdong TV Station and Beijing Olympic Broadcasting (BOB). According to international practices and OCA's requirements, the bid-winning host broadcaster will establish an independent project operation company for comprehensively undertaking its responsibilities. Guangzhou Asian Games Broadcasting Co., Ltd. (GAB) was selected as the host broadcaster of the Games .
Business fields for the broadcasting operation cover camera position, mixed zone, commentary position, observer seats, CCR, broadcast information office, etc.
The media operation of the Games mainly provides services for such venues as IBC, MPC and VMCs:
(1) IBC, as the front headquarters of the Broadcasting Operation Centre and rights-holding broadcasters of the Games, will provide facilities and 24-hour services for the host broadcaster, Rights Holders as well as broadcasting media from 45 Asian countries/regions. During the competitions, GAB and GAGOC will be in charge of the operation of the broadcasting area and the operation of the public area respectively.
(2) MPC, as the major work place for journalists, photographers and personnel of non-rights-holding broadcasters, serves as one of the most important non-competition venues. Besides providing facilities and 24-hour services for the accredited journalists, MPC also play the role of the headquarters of GAGOC's media operation.
(3) VMCs are employed by the accredited journalists as the places for competition reporting, thus described as the most forward line of the news war of the Games in comparison with MPC. VMCs of all competition venues will provide the accredited media with journalist offices, photographer offices, AGNS stand-alone offices, journalist stands, camera positions, mixed zones, press halls, media lounges, offices for venue media managers and photo managers, as well as media shuttle bus stops, media parking lots and entrances dedicated to media outside venues.
