Vietnam wins women's football title on penalties at SEA Games

Vientiane, Laos, December 16 - Vietnam beat last SEA Games women's football champion Thailand 3-0 in a thrilling penalty shootout after a scoreless full-time to win the gold at the ongoing 25th Southeast Asian Games here on Wednesday (December 16).

Vietnamese players Kim Hong, Van Thi Thanh and Kim Tien all converted their penalty kicks to seal the title.

This is the fourth time Vietnam has been crowned with the women's football SEA Games title.

In past years, the Vietnamese women's squad has been a dominant powerhouse at SEA Games in 2001 (Malaysia), 2003 (Vietnam) and 2005 (the Philippines).

There are five women's squads participating in the 25th SEA Games, including Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar, Laos and Malaysia, which competed in a round robin format with the two top teams qualifying for the final.
