The Asian Games will be the top priority for Guangzhou's emergency response plan this year, stated Chen Guo, vice mayor of Guangzhou and deputy director of the city's Emergency Response Committee, at the city's 2010 emergency response management conference on March 9.

Vice Mayor Chen said that as the host city of the Asian Games and Asian Para Games, Guangzhou will make adequate preparations for emergency response to the games. Guangzhou will also draw upon the emergency response experience of the Beijing Olympic Games, prepare pertinent contingency plans for the Asian Games, strengthen drills, and speed up the efforts to build a joint emergency response mechanism.

Moreover, he said, Guangzhou will step up the construction of its emergency response platform system and put the municipal government's integrated emergency response command platform into operation ahead of the Asian Games. Furthermore, Guangzhou will intensify regional emergency response cooperation and work with neighbouring cities to improve the cooperation mechanism and strengthen joint operations, risk management and the sharing of information resources.
