Guangzhou to build international pharmaceutical port

Updated:2010-07-07 09:57:16 Source: english.gz.gov.cn

The groundbreaking ceremony of the Guangzhou International Medical Port was held on July 5. Located at Dongsha on the border between Guangzhou and Foshan, the port is set to become China's largest centre for pharmaceutical logistics services. The project is currently the only national-class large-scaled pharmaceutical logistics service centre approved by the State Food and Drug Administration.

Upon its completion in 15 months, the port will become an integrated pharmaceutical logistics facility with trading, exhibition, education, e-commerce, sightseeing, and tourism functions. It will host a cluster of pharmaceutical businesses and play a leading role in consolidating Guangdong's pharmaceutical trading and traditional Chinese medicine resources. It's also expected to become an engine of growth in the province's pharmaceutical logistics industry.

The South China Testing and Evaluation Centre for Pharmaceutical, Medical Instrument, Healthcare Products and Cosmetics, set up by national, provincial and municipal drug testing institutions, will be responsible for ensuring the quality of the pharmaceutical logistics originating from Guangzhou.

The pharmaceutical port will include a center for research on the economics of the pharmaceutical industry. The center will be a collaborative project between industry and academia.
