Rajeev and Guyan to represent Sri Lanka at rowing at Asian Games

Sri Lanka - Two Oarsmen namely Rajeev De Silva and Guyan Jayaratne have been selected to represent Sri Lanka at rowing at the 16th Asian Games to be held in Guangzhou, China from November 12 onwards.

De Silva and Jayaratne were among the top scullers selected from last year's rowing nationals. All top four poolists underwent intense training for three months before three selection trials were held.

The results of the trials were given to the Sri Lankan Rowing Association who in turn picked Thomian Skipper De Silva and Jayaratne of the Air Force and handed over the names to the National Olympic Committee.

Lakmal Wickremage who will be accompanying the two Oarsmen as coach and manager, speaking to the Sunday Times said: "De Silva is National Champion and he will be competing in the single scull event and also the double scull event where he will be joined by Jayaratne. Jayaratne is the number two sculler in Sri Lanka and he brings some experience to the team having competed in the previous Asian Games in Doha, Qatar in 2006 and also the Junior Asian Rowing Championship held the following year in South Korea."

The duo is currently undergoing training at the Bolgoda Rowing Club premises as well as the Colombo Rowing Club premises at the Beira Lake. They will leave to China on November 11.
