Guangzhou, November 23 - As a pearl of Lingnan culture, the glow of Cantonese Opera shines across the world.

Members of the 16th Asian Games Youth Camp paid a visit to Ni Huiying, a famous Cantonese Opera actress, Head of Guangzhou Cantonese Opera Group and leading female role in Cantonese Opera known as "Gold voice" and "Opera Queen", at Guangzhou Southern Theatre on Tuesday morning when she told detailed history of Cantonese Opera and campers wore the costumes to learn Cantonese Opera.

As a Canton Opera performer with euphonic voice, beautiful appearance, and professional perform skills, Ni represents all workers of Canton Opera circle to relay the Asian Games torch. She said: "As an Asian Games torchbearer, I want to spread the enthusiastic, healthy and inspiring spirits to the world. Canton Opera is a name card for Lingnan culture. I hope that through the Asian Games, more peoples from more countries and regions will cast their eyes on Canton Opera and love it."

"When someone arrives at a new place, the most important thing that can impress him/her is the local culture of that place. As an art which incorporate all the strengths of Lingnan culture, Cantonese Opera expresses the unique characteristic of tender, gracefulness and introversion of Lingnan Culture as well as Chinese culture," Ni said.

Ni Huiying said confidently: "The melody of Cantonese Opera is mild and full of techniques. I believe that the foreign audiences will like it and Cantonese Opera will bring honour to Asian Games."

As scheduled for the Tuesday visit, Ni would communicate with campers and offer some costumes of different roles to campers to try them on, which can help campers to know more about the basic skills of the Cantonese Opera, like the standing postures, the gestures, the walking styles, etc.

Ni firmly said that only with young audience can an art form have a bright future. However, she said frankly: "I will not demand everyone must learn to perform Cantonese Opera, but I do hope all of them like the art and be an avid audience. I will feel very happy if the young can fall in love with the Cantonese Opera through these activities."
